Successfully meeting a company’s business objectives in technology transactions requires more than just very good contracting and negotiating skills. It demands an innate understanding of how to structure a transaction that is effective from the perspectives of both the technology owner and the user or licensee. John has spent many years acquiring for clients the exact rights that licensees (manufacturers and users alike) need to ensure that products deliver the expected benefits on sensible commercial terms. He also assists technology owners to ensure that transactions generate appropriate levels of revenue and to protect their technology from unauthorised exploitation. John has spent 33 years honing these skills while acting for and against leading-edge technology companies around the world.
IT and other forms of outsourcing present very specific challenges of their own, particularly tied to ensuring sustained compliance with service specifications over several years while delivering the cost, quality and efficiency improvements which lead companies into outsourcing transactions in the first instance. John's experience encompasses most forms of outsourcing and transactions that are both small and large.
John has also counselled a number of clients on media issues and launching and protecting their brands. His experience in these areas encompasses both online and other activities, and ties into the e-commerce advice he has given.
John's telecommunications experience extends over 30 years and began with the sale of digital private network systems in the Middle East and SE Asia. Since then he has worked in every sector of the telecommunications industry from network management, system implementation and billing software development to the cloud, VoIP, mobile, satellite, local and long distance service provision and submarine cables.
